Happy halloween y'all!!!!

Sunday, October 31, 2010 Category : , 14

Just a post to wish everyone who celebrates halloween to have a great one =)

I didn't do any halloween nails but I did carve a pumpkin for a contest.  I came in first place and won $100 so that was pretty great....I didn't post much last week because the pumpkin carving destroyed and stained my nails pretty badly....ekk.

I followed Ray Villafane's tutorial found here: http://www.villafanestudios.com/pumpkins.htm?fark

I also wanted to share with you guys my favorite nail polish of ALL TIME!!!This is the one nail polish that did it for me, the one nail polish that cemented my love for nail polish.  I bought this polish about 10 years ago, it is a shimmer metallic blue.  I'm sure china glaze has a dupe for it but I will always be faithful to this bottle/ brand/ color. There's nothing left in the bottle since everything has evaporated but I still keep this polish bottle because I am emotionally attached to it.

*Note: the pictures don't do justice to the color since all the color pigments have changed over time.

I would like to introduce:  Covergirl's Nailslick polish in Deep blue sea!!

So there you go, this is the one polish that did it for me.

If you guys own it and don't mind parting with it please email me at shortwidenails@hotmail.com. I would love to buy it from you, new or used.

by the way, in the photos I am wearing China glaze Dorthy who

Avon vintage blue + konad

Wednesday, October 27, 2010 Category : , , , , 4

Hi readers!

I haven't posted in a while..I've been rather busy with halloween pumpin carving =)

Before I go into today's post I wanted to address the piggy polish question that keeps popping up in my email.  A lot of you have been asking me when Piggy Polish baby I love your waves will be available online (if there's an ulta nearby they sell Piggy Polish too).  I contacted Julie Lown, the owner of piggy polish, and she informed me that baby, I love your waves will be available on sale by the end of the month =) and they do ship internationally..yay!

Back to today, I am reviewing Avon's vintage blue.
This is 2 coats + top coat.

Pros:
*second coat opaque
*I didn't find it chalky
*cheap, $2.99 canadian
*good brush, similar to a china glaze brush which I like
*the wear was great, the polish in the pictures is 4 days old

Con:
*first coat was streaky
*without a top coat it wasn't as shiny as I would have liked to it to be

So konading time!! I had trouble deciding what polish to konad with.

The first konad I did was using china glaze DV8 and the image plate m78
(these nails haven't been cleaned up yet so they still look rather messy)

It looks alright but I wasn't really happy with it so I removed it and rekonaded with Avon's mirror shine polish in glisten.

I like the 2nd konad better using avon glisten better =)

Tell me which konad you guys like!

btw: I konad with the double ended stamper I got from delaynee, and I love it!  it is way easier to stamp with a double ended stamper than the short one sided stamper.

CSN Stores product review

1

So guess what everyone? I was offered the opportunity to become a CSN stores Preferred Blogger!  This is a great opportunity because I will now have the opportunity to hosts more sponsored giveaways from them!!! Yay!

Btw, I don’t think I ever announced on my blog who the winner of the last giveaway was so....the winner was Jen, the Polish-Aholic blogger (Don't worry, I contacted her right away after the contest ended). As the winner of the CSN giveaway I believe she will be purchasing nail polish from csnstores.com so yay for her.

Thank you to all of my readers that entered the giveaway and checked out the CSN stores website.

So...as a CSN stores Preferred Blogger I can now review one of their products for myself. I have yet to have the opportunity to purchase something from them for myself, so this will be a great opportunity.

I haven’t quite decided what item I want to review from CSNstores since they have over 200 affiliated websites.  I didn’t realize it but they actually sell large furniture items like nightstands, mattresses, and beds.

I actually have my eyes set out on either the pyrex dish set or a scientific calculator =) I need the calculator for a test that’s coming up..so yes..=)

Anyhow, If you have not had the opportunity to check out what CSN Stores has to offer, please do!

PIGGY POLISH!!!

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 Category : , , , , , , , , 18

Today I have 6 piggy polish colors to share with you all!

Miss Julie Lown, the owner of Piggy polish, offered to send me some samples.  I had expected 1 or 2 but she surprised me with 6 polishes.  This is extremely generous of her and I was completely shocked when I recieved the package. Miss Lown did not ask for a review or anything in return but I am doing a review anyway because that's what I do with all my polishes =)

Piggy polish is marketed as a polish that goes on toes but it works perfectly well on hands as well.  It actually wears as well as OPI.  I did a comparison between the wear of OPI and piggy polish at the bottom of this post and I 'm pretty impressed.

Oh yes, these polishes can be bought online at https://www.piggypolish.com/order/

These polishes all come with toe rings =)
L to R: Baby, I love your waves, LIME alright, Keep it teal, HOT attack, Schooner or later, Yacht-a Yachta-a

2 coats are applied unless otherwise stated.

The first color we have is part of the Fall 2010 collection: Baby, I love your waves.
It is a suede polish, almost matte but slightly shinier =)
This polish dries incredibly fast, because of that, I used it on my 3 year old niece's hands since doesn't really like to wait for polishes to dry.

Here's a  guest appearance from my niece =)

The next color is LIME alright, another fall 2010 color.
This color is a matte, not a suede like the previous color.
This is a crazy mustard color that I love.
This polish also dries incredibly fast.

Okay, this color does not work well on my toes, it just doesn't match my skin tone but it does look awesome on my nails.

the next color is Keep it teal
It has some shimmer in it that makes it appear almost frost like but not quite

the next color is HOT attack
I'm pretty bad at identifying colors but I think I would classify this color as a yellow frost (please correct me if I am wrong)
I had trouble capturing this color: here it is under natural light (Sun)
Here it is with the room lights on

the next color is Schooner or later, it is a super bright pink but I would not classify it as a neon pink

the next color is Yacht-a Yachta-a (crazy spelling eh?)
This is a crazy color because it is a purple jelly!  I have been looking for a jelly ever since I saw the Jessica Jellies.  I do own Jelly's like China glaze Atlantis and electric lilac but they are full of glitter, I honestly do not own a jelly with nothing in it. I think this color would be awesome for gradients..but of course the flaw of the jelly polish is the visible nail line.

Sorry! I seem to have deleted the toe image for this polish =(

Just in case anyone was wondering what the brush looks like:

It is similar to a china glaze brush.

COMPARISONS!!
These pictures are from my pentax camera, not the Canon camera; therefore, the pictures aren't as nice.

So, in one corner we have OPI Jade is the new black, in the other corner we have Piggy Polish Keep it teal

Before I left my job I wanted to test Piggy polish versus OPI.  OPI is the only brand that wears well for me at work. My job was really hard on the nails and caused a lot of chipping/ breaks due to the fact that I had to keep changing the rubber gloves I wore (I wore over 25 pairs of rubber gloves each day).  Any other polish brand (besides OPI) chips instantly at work.

I alternated my fingers with OPI and Piggy polish.

DAY 1 Sunday: freshly applied, did not go to work today

DAY 2 Monday: After work I took a picture of my nails

DAY 3 Tuesday: second day I went to work, I took a picture right after I came home

As you can see the wear is almost the same...piggy polish might even have better wear than OPI as you can see in the above comparisons images.

MAC bad fairy

Saturday, October 2, 2010 Category : , 9

Finally a new post!! yay! I also got my camera back from my brother in law so pictures again!

Today I am featuring the newest polish in my collection....MAC bad fairy.  It was released with the MAC Venomous Villians Collection on September 30. This is under the Villains maleficent line (from sleeping beauty).

This is 3 coats. The first coat is incredibly sheer but it builds up to be opaque.  I would say that this polish is a glitter frost duochrome.

Yes, it is a duochrome. It goes form a dark cranberry red to a gold orange.I tried to capture the duochrome in the bottom picture.

A lot of people have said that OPI's the show must go on from the Burlesque collection is a dupe for bad fairy, this is not the case. I do not own the show must go on but I do have pictures from other bloggers that own both and did a comparison.

The first blogger that did a comparison is http://lacquerluster.blogspot.com/

Left Bad fairy, Right the show must go on

The Second blogger that did a comparison is http://www.alllacqueredup.com

I think that the main difference is the color.  Bad fairy is more cranberry red while the show must go on is a cherry red.  I prefer bad fairy because it works better with my skin tone compared to a cherry red.  Bloggers have also stated that the gold orange duochrome is more apparent in Bad Fairy compared to the show must go on.

Here's a little chart made in ms paint to show the difference between Bad Fairy and the show must go on:

and here's a sneak peek for my next post:
