Layering polish post!!!

Saturday, December 31, 2011 Category : , 2

In 2010, I was sent a few piggy polishes to review.

I recently bought Wet 'n Wild's Party of Five Glitters and I wanted to do a layering mani...so..I pulled out my bottle of Piggy polish Yacht-a Yachta-a.

I have one coat Yacht-a Yachta-a, one coat Party of five glitter, another coat of Yacht-a Yachta-a

Because Yacht-a Yachta-a is a jelly like polish it allowed the glitter to show through :)

I thought this was a pretty successful layering combination :)

Dr's. REMEDY Jolly & Joy 2011 Holiday Collection Review

0

This Holiday Dr's. REMEDY has released a new collection featuring 5 new shades : 3 shimmers and 2 glitters.

Here they are standing together in a row:

Left to right: SERENE Silver Glitter, RESOLUTION Red Glitter, REVIVE Ruby Red, PASSION Purple, ESSENTIAL Emerald

The first polish I have is SERENE Silver Glitter. This polish is a one coater glitter that is not only made up of silver glitter, it also consists of blue, purple, fushia glitter.  This polish screams winter and new years!

The next polish is RESOLUTION Red Glitter. It's not really red glitter, more pink glitter. I really like this polish because it's all glittery but also very gentle and sweet. This is 2 coats...my mom is wearing it right now :)

Next up is PASSION Purple. This is like a red barney purple. The formula was very easy to work with and this only took 2 coats.

Next up is REVIVE Ruby Red. You can see how intense this color is in the picture. It is a jewel toned blue red. 3 coats. It is quite perfect of a red.

Lastly, we have ESSENTIAL Emerald. It is described as "A take on the classic tree-and-plant-inspired gem of a shade, with delicate glimmer and unparalled amounts of glamour". I agree.. there's a hint of silver shimmer in it which reminds me of frost on Christmas trees. This was 2 coats.

Dr.'s Remedy nail polish is DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde free and enriched with natural ingredients.

The natural ingredients are:
  • Tea Tree Oil: an essential oil obtained from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifornia, which is found to have antiseptic and antifungal activity.
  • Garlic Bulb Extract: contains Allicin, a powerful antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral agent that joins forces with Vitamin C to help kill harmful germs.
  • Vitamins C&E: for healthier skin and nails.
  • Wheat Protein: a vegetable derived, high quality protein which contains moisture binding capabilities and naturally increases shine.

You can purchase the polishes on remedynails.com and you can find them on Facebook and Twitter.

Fall 2011 will be fierce: leaves will change, for sure, and temps will follow suit. But the real news relates to the hues of this season. Indeed, we're revolutionarily-ready to welcome a crisper, cleaner, clearer collection of colors, kudos to Dr.'s REMEDY insight and excitement over autumn. These hues celebrate the season that screams renewal: a rich bordeaux; a modern burgundy; a navy-meets-royal blue. We welcome you to invite your nails to dance in Dr.'s REMEDY FALL FEVER 2011.

Left to Right: Noble Navy, Balance Brick, Defense Deep Red

First we have: Balance Brick
This is 2 coats. A gorgeous red cream that is slightly blue toned

Next we have Noble Navy
This is 2 coats. This is my favorite color from the collection. I really like dark dark colors that almost look black but isn't. :)

Lastly we have  Defense Deep Red
Two coats. This is definitely what people refer to as a dark vamp red.

OPI Muppets Collection

Tuesday, November 29, 2011 1

In honor of the Muppet Movie...OPI released 12 polishes known as the Muppet Collection for winter 2011. I have 6 of the colors today.  Edit: I bought the polish Rainbow Connection and have added images of it at the end of the post :)

Left to right: Meep-Meep-Meep, Excuse Moi!, Gettin' Miss Piggy With It!, Gone Gonzo!, Warm and Fozzie, Designer, De Better!
(lots of exclamation marks in these names)

Left to right: Meep-Meep-Meep, Excuse Moi!, Gettin' Miss Piggy With It!
Left to right: Gone Gonzo!, Warm and Fozzie, Designer, De Better!

Rainbow Connection
First up we have Designer, De Better!
This is my favorite color. It is a silver polish with flecks of copper and gold in it. This was two coats.

I liked it so much and it screamed Christmas that I decided to nail stamp over it so I used my favorite bundlemonster image plate BM20 and OPI meep-meep-meep to make candy cane nails.

Next is Warm and Fozzie. Warm and Fozzie took 3 coats, it is a duochrome brown/ gold polish that I would describe as glass flecked. It is a gorgeous color... I cannot think of a dupe for it.

Next we have my next favorite polish from the collection Excuse Moi!
This was 3 coats. This is a pink based polish with  tiny silver, green, blue, yellow, red, and pink glitter suspended in it.

Next we have meep-meep-meep
this is a red glass flecked polish. The glass flecks in this polish gives it a slight gold sheen that can been seen at certain angles.
This was 3 coats.

On top of meep-meep-meep I layered on Getting Miss Piggy with it!  This is a clear red glitter polish with larger red and silver hexagonal glitter suspended in it.

Next we have Gone Gonzo! I layered it on top of OPI suzi says feng shui, you can see it by itself on my bottom finger. It is a clear polish with small blue glitter and large silver hexagonal glitter suspended in it. This was 2 coats.

Edit: One more addition...we have Rainbow Connection.
I came across this polish at the store the other day and I had to have it even though there are a few dupes out there. I layered this over OPI parlez vous francais. This is 2 coats.

Where have I been?

Tuesday, November 1, 2011 12

Hi guys!!

I have been gone for a while...why?   Well I went back to school to become an x-ray technician.  :)

Being at school has taken a huge chunk of my time so my blog was put on the back burner...but I'm almost ready to make a comeback.  By November 11 expect posts popping up here and there and left and right and everywhere.  I have a ton of pictures and comparisons but I haven't had time to edit them.

You guys have all seen infamous cupcake nails so here are my cupcake nails:

I'm not going to put a watermark on this photo (good idea? bad idea?)  but I'll have a post coming up with more details on the colors and things I used to make these nails.

another fun thing:   Cosmopolitan Ukraine posted my nails on their website so that's fun. Sure I didn't really get credited for it but I did have a watermark on my picture so yay! Take a look here, other bloggers were featured too...but no credit given :(

and lastly:

It's November also known as Movember.  What happens in November is that men start growing crazy mustaches (mo's) throughout the month to raise funds and awareness for men's health...specifically prostate cancer. My boyfriend is participating this year and is going to grow a freaky mustache...I'm not a fan of a freaky mustache but it's for a good cause so I can't complain.  I know money is always tight with our nail polish addictions...but if have a couple of extra dollars ( even a dollar) it would be wonderful if you could donate to a great cause.

You can donate to my boyfriend and support him here:

Dr.'s Remedy nail polish review

Monday, September 5, 2011 8

Today I have a review on 5 Dr.'s Remedy nail polishes that were sent to me.

From left to right: Glee Gold, Nurture Nude Pink, Bold Baby Blue, Tranquil Tangerine, Lovely Lavender

Bold Baby Blue
A blue frost polish. 3 coats.  It was very difficult to capture the shine and gloss in the polish. The polish did not show brush strokes, what you see on my nails are due to me hitting my nails on the camera before they were dry.

Glee Gold
A foil polish? Not quite a frost polish because there is some small specks of glitter in it. 3 coats. It was very difficult to remove BUT it did not chip over the 5 days that I wore it.

Tranquil Tangerine
This polish is very very bright and applies very smoothly. 3 coats. Similar to Glee Gold..it is a foil polish with a bit of glitter specks in it.

Nuture Nude Pink
I really liked this color, it was 3 coats. It probably would have be better if I had used 4 coats.  This pink isn't exactly a creme, it has a pearlucent shimmer to it that I was unable to capture on my camera.

Lovely Lavender
Purple is my all time favorite color! This dusty purple is gorgeous. It applied smoothly, 3 coats.  It is a dusty purple creme. It doesn't need any shimmer, glitter, duochrome, or holo coloring to it. It is perfect the way it is :)

Acrylic Powder Nail Art Mold Tutorial!!!!

Sunday, August 7, 2011 5

I have finally taken and edited step by step pictures on how to use acrylic powders and an acrylic mold to make an acrylic 3D image.

The set I am using is this set found from bornprettystore.com

WARNING!!!  BE IN A VENTILATED SPACE WHEN YOU DO THIS!!!! the acrylic solution smells terrible!

Step 1: Get all materials ready!
1. Acrylic nail powders
2. Glass vial to pour acrylic solution into (can be plastic too)
3. Acrylic solution
4. Acrylic mold (when you are really good you won't need a mold and can freehand your shapes)
5. Paint brush (try to get one that has a similar shape to the one in the picture)
6. Paper towel (in the background of the picture the white thing is a sheet of paper towel)

Step 2
1. Transfer acrylic solution to vial.  You don't need a lot, if there isn't enough then you can add more LATER.  Once you pour it out do not return the unused liquid back to the original bottle, you do not want to contaminate the original solution. If you use black acrylic powder the solution will turn black...then if you use the same liquid for white acrylic powder your white will have a tinge of black in it.
2. To transfer the liquid to the vial I poured it down the paintbrush so there was no spilling or dripping
3. The second picture shows how much I poured into the bottle...not much

Step 3
1. acrylic liquid poured: check
2. acrylic powder opened: check
3. mold chosen: check
4. paintbrush: check
5. paper towel: check

Step 4
1. Dip brush into acrylic solution, make sure brush is completely covered in the solution not just the tip

Step 5
1. Tap the brush against the edge to get rid of excess liquid. You want the brush wet but you don't want it to be dripping wet

Step 6
1. I felt that the brush was still a bit too wet so I dabbed it on the paper towel. This part takes trial and error/ experience to determine if your brush is too wet or not wet enough to work with the acrylic powder

Step 7
1. Dip the moist brush into the powder (in this stage you can see that if you acrylic liquid solution was contaminated black and you dipped your brush into the powder, the white powder would become black....this is something you don't want)

Step 8
1. Right when you dip your brush into the powder the powder will suddenly stick to you brush ...it will clump to your brush

Step 9
1. If your brush is damp enough the clump of powder will become liquid after a few seconds ...you can tell that this has happened when the clump of powder becomes shiny and looks like a liquid drop

 Step 10
 1. Take the liquid acrylic drop and place it into the mold shape you want

Step 11
1. You can clean up the mold shape by dipping your brush into the acrylic liquid and swipe around the mold.  You want to clean up the excess acrylic because when you pop out the mold design you don't want bits and pieces hanging from it.

Step 12
1. After a minute or even less depending on how big your design, is you can pop it out of the mold.  Your design doesn't have to be super dry, it is actually better if it hasn't completely dried when you pop out the design. You can test the dryness by poking the design a bit, as long as you can pop it out and it retains the shape then it's good.
2. The acrylic mold is made out of silicon? rubber?  anyway...it's flexible so you can bend it like the picture below to pop out the design

Step 13
1. The reason why I said it is best to pop out the design before it completely dries is that if it is still slightly soft you can bend it a bit...see the image below.
2. You want to bend it slightly so that it dries with a curve so that it complements the curve on your nail.  If it dried flat it's harder to stick on to you nail.

Step 14
1. I use clear nail polish and stick it onto my nails, put another layer of nail polish on top and done!

Step 15
1. Cleaning the mold, just dip your brush in the acrylic solution and swipe over the mold.
2. you may want to rinse it under water at the end to remove the strong smell of the acrylic solution.

Done!  :o)
