China Glaze Sea Goddess Collection Swatches

Tuesday, January 28, 2014 0

Today I have swatches for 3 polishes that are part of the Spring 2014 China Glaze Sea Goddess Collection.  These polishes were generously provided to me for review by nailpolishcanada.com

From left to right we have Seahorsin’ Around,  Wish On a Starfish,  Shell We Dance

First up is my absolute favorite: Seahorsin’ Around

This polish reminds me of a liquid sand version of OPI Catch Me in Your Net polish.  I used two coats, no top coat or base coat.  The polish applied smoothly and there was no dragging.  It is very hard to describe the polish, it is a teal/ blue polish that looks like it also has fine teal/blue/silver glitter in it. What made me love this polish the most was that there was no staining when I removed it :)

Next is Wish On a Starfish

This is a pastel pink liquid sand polish with a gold sheen/shimmer to it. I think that it is a very beautiful neutral liquid sand polish that could be work appropriate.  I used two coats, everything went on smoothly.  It reminds me of China Glaze strawberry fields but a paler pink and with more gold shimmer to it.

Lastly I have Shell We Dance
This one is a raspberry pink with no gold shimmer to it.  It has small pink glitter in it.  I used two coats. The first coat was a bit patchy to apply but the second coat evened out the application issue.  I felt that the polish was a bit thicker than the other two polishes.

Also don't forget about the sale NailpolishCanada is having on the Sea Goddess collection
The full collection (all 6 shades in a set) is on sale for $37.70 (regular $47.70) until Feb 15th.

Back logged swatches

I have had this post as a draft for a very long time and today I am finally posting my swatches.  I just haven't had the time to edit the pictures and it was taking me forever to upload the pictures. Today I have uploaded all the pictures.  Please forgive me for my lack of cropping on the pictures.  I didn't crop or edit the pictures in anyway.  I don't even have watermarks on them...oh wells

Left to right: Zoya Zara, Zoya Mimi, China glaze Strap On Your Moonboots, China Glaze When Stars Collide, China glaze Heat Index, OPI I Theodora You

First up we have Zoya Zara.  It is jelly lavender that has gold shimmer in it. It took 4 coats for me to get full opacity. Even in the pictures you can still see the VNL (visible nail line).  It had a very smooth application

Next is one of my favorites Zoya Mimi.  This is a glass flecked purple that is the purple version of Zoya Charla/ OPI Catch me in your net/ Zoya Ivanka.  I used 3 coats in the pictures.  It had a very smooth application

Next up are the two china glaze polishes from the hologram collection.  I already own most of the china glaze OMG collection so I didn't think I needed the hologram collection.  I did get the two colors that I thought were unique, a dark blue and a maroon purple

First is China glaze Strap On Your Moonboots.  I used three coats, if you were careful I think you could get away with two coats.  I had a bit of dragging when I applied the second coat; therefore I had to use three coats to even out my application.

Number two is China Glaze When Stars Collide.  I had the same application issue as I did with China glaze Strap On Your Moonboots. There was some dragging on coat two so I applied a third coat to even out the application.

Next we have Heat index from the China Glaze Sunsational Collection

I got this polish because it is extremely bright and has a JELLY finish!!!  I really like jelly polishes but a good jelly polish is hard to find.  Just look at the squishie-ness of the polish!  I used three coats.  I never wear this polish alone, I like to layer it with glitter polish underneath to make a glitter sandwich effect e.g. rainbow glitter (OPI Rainbow Connection) or black and white glitter (lynnderella connect the dots). etc

Lastly we have OPI I Theodora You.  I love love love this polish.  It is the perfect neutral pink.  Very smooth application two coats.  After some crazy funky designs/ colors on your nails, you may want a neutral cleanser color for your nails, this is the go to polish. It is very elegant and beautiful

Time Flies

Sunday, January 19, 2014 3

I realized that I have had this blog for over 4 years.  It was a small hobby while I was working as a research scientist.  That job ended and I went back to school, graduated, and I am an x-ray technician.

I work quite a bit as an x-ray technician; therefore, work has taken a toll on my hands.  My constant hand washing has really dried up my skin and there have been a lot of nail breakages.  I am not as passionate about nail polish as I once was but I still keep up to date with the new collections and I still like nail polish.  I think what is difficult for me is that my nails are constantly broken and irregular shaped so it's hard to be motivated to take pretty pictures.

Anyways, here is a x-ray related nail design :)

Also...look at this mess.  My racks are completely filled up and I have boxes of nail polish everywhere :( Everything is out of order and just sad :(   I need to find time to organize my babies

Dillon Green mint shimmer metallic
Rebel Blue sky shimmer metallic
Hudson Purple orchid shimmer metallic
Dot Pink petal cream
Cole Peach whisper cream
Brooklyn White-gold shimmer metallic
Monet Multi-color, cellophane holographic topper

Yay or nay?

Purple is my favorite color but I've been getting bored of purple polishes now.  I want something new, fantastic, never seen before.  I wonder if Hudson will be it?  Or will Hudson be another frosty purple?

Orizée hydrating cream review

Tuesday, August 20, 2013 2

A few weeks ago the company Orizée contacted me and asked me if I would like to review a product from their skincare line.

What I found out about Orizée is that they are located on Granville Island in Vancouver, B.C.  The main ingredient in their products is SakeKasu, this is the nutrient dense, probiotic fermented rice paste that results from sakemaking.

Orizée's skincare line is gluten free, cruelty free, and paraben free.

What I thought was really neat was that their packaging is made with Cougar paper. FSC® Certified, SFI® Certified Sourcing and Rainforest Alliance Certified™. Featuring 10% post-consumer recycled content and certified fiber.

Orizée sent me their Yuzu and Shiso hydrating cream to review on my blo..  I am always looking for a new face cream to help with my skin so I decided to experiment with the cream.  I have very difficult skin to work with because I suffer from eczema and rosacea.

I have been using the hydrating for almost two weeks now so I thought it would now be appropriate for me to do the review

First of all, the instructions state that you should use the cream in the morning and at night again. I only used the cream at night because in the morning I wanted to use something with SPF in it.

When I first put the cream on my face it burned a little bit.  Not a horrible burning feeling but a slight tingly feeling similar to having vicks on your face.  This wasn't painful so I left it on.  I have had face creams that have burned my face so badly that I had to wash the lotion off my face immediately.

When I first started using the cream I had rough skin on my face. I had tried a lot of different moisturizers but none of them really helped with the rough skin on my face.  Now, after about two weeks the patch of dry skin on my face is almost gone.  I am actually quite pleased with the product.

The product is very light weight and is absorbed in to the skin very quickly.  It does not leave a greasy feeling behind.

Here is some info on the hydrating cream:

Benefits
  • Stimulates circulation and promotes skin elasticity.
  • Stimulatescell rejuvenation
  • Deeply hydrates the skin
  • Anti-aging

  • Pacific Red Algae Gel (callophyllis flabellulata)

  • Evening Primrose Oil (oenothera biennis)

Urban-Inspired Nails!
OPI Launches the San Francisco Collection
For Fall/Winter 2013

San Francisco by OPI brings street chic style with West Coast flair to nails and toes for Fall/Winter 2013. This new collection features a palette ranging from sky and sea-colored hues of blues and gray to reds, burgundies and browns inspired by some of the city’s most iconic elements – Chinatown, the Golden Gate bridge and the Embarcadero. This fall mélange is mixed with texture, seen in three new Liquid Sand™ nail lacquers in earthy hues of taupe, blue and gray: It’s All San Andreas’s Fault, Wharf! Wharf! Wharf! and Alcatraz…Rocks. Liquid Sand lacquers dry to a textured, matte finish, infused with reflective sparkle.

“To me, the women of San Francisco and the city itself really epitomize today’s multifaceted beauty consumer,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director.  “San Francisco offers a European flair with distinct West Coast attributes. These elements inspired a collection of urban chic nail lacquer shades, thanks to the sophisticated combination of high fashion and eclectic street style.

“With twelve colors ranging from moody grays and blues to garnet and ruby jewel tones, these lacquers are designed to accessorize fall’s hottest looks, from military details to winter whites,” continues Weiss-Fischmann. “On fall runways, models were seen wearing luxurious textures from head to toe. The three new Liquid Sand nail lacquers incorporate the texture trend through nails, with rich matte finishes in colors to complement the season’s fashion.”
