Acrylic heart nails + more more more Canuck nails

Saturday, June 11, 2011 Category : , , , , , , , 8

A while back I wanted to go all crazy on my nails so I decided to try out another acrylic mold that bornprettystore.com sent me.

First,l I did my background design, which is a white base (Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On) and  silver stripes.  The silver stripes were stamped with the Bundle Monster Image plate #20 (silver is china glaze millenium).  The stripe design from the Bundle Monster image plate is my all time favorite design.  It just always looks awesome.

By the way, this is the longest my nails have ever been...hehe
So, after a few days I decided to try the acrylic mold bornprettystore.com sent me for review.

I put in some acrylic powder, let it dry and popped out the hearts. Then I stuck them to my nail using clear nail polish (Seche vite)..and Bam!

The 3d hearts ended up bugging me a few days later so I removed them..the acrylic hearts really stayed on my nails and did not budge.

These are the current nails I am rocking right now:

NYC skin tight denim
Sally Hansen White on

Disclaimer - The acrylic mold  was sent to me for review by bornprettystore.com with no payment. My opinion is an honest one.  Everything else including the Bundle Monster image plates were purchased by myself.

Sidenote: Did you guys know that Bornprettystore.com is now selling replicate konad image plates for $2.32 a plate?  or you can get a set of 16 plates for $16.32 .  Free shipping too! GO Canucks GO!!!

I'm back from my mini hiatus and what better way to announce my return than to do a post featuring my number one hockey team:  THE VANCOUVER CANUCKS!!

The Vancouver Canucks have made it to the Western Conference Final...being from Vancouver...this is HUGE!!!!

Lately I have been rocking Canucks inspired nails.
Last year I was sporting Fin, the Canucks orca whale mascot on my thumb:

This year I'm going for a more subtle look (I'm working as a research technician in a private pharmaceutical company so I gotta keep it classy ^_^ ).......I'm going for V for Vancouver, green and blue for the Canucks

Colors used: OPI Jade is the new black, N.Y.C Skintight Denim

I have a tutorial for you guys so that you can all rock nails similar to mine:
1. Tape! I used scotch tape and cut the tape so that I would have a clean corner.  This corner decides how wide your V will be.

2.  You need to put the tape on your hand, arm, shirt etc to make it less sticky. If you don't do this, the tape will be way too sticky and can ruin your design.

3. Put the tape on your nail

 4. Paint the section not covered by the tape. Don't worry about how you paint it because the tape will help guide the V shape design.  I just follow along the edges of the tape.

 5. Remove the tape and voila!

6.  For another color,  follow steps 1-5 again

7. Take off the tape, voila! You can make the V thicker if you want, it depends on where you put the tape.

Polishes used: OPI We'll always have paris suede, Orly Iron butterfly, China Glaze millenium

Wedding inspired nails

Sunday, April 10, 2011 Category : , , , , 12

I bought China Glaze White Cap the other day from ebay. I applied it on my nails and I loved loved loved it. I really like the gold micro glimmer/ shimmer, I think that it is a very classy color.

This is 3 coats.

I wanted to spice it up so I decided to try my hand at doing wedding inspired nails since I can totally imagine someone wearing White Cap to a wedding.

So I used the following:

And BAM!  we have this:

So what do you think?

*I used an arcylic mold to make the 3D flower on my ring finger.
*Seche Vite is the best top coat EVER for making sure 3D things stay on your nails. When I put on the silver balls/ rhinestones on my nails fall off the next day or they just don't stick to my nails at all, but with the Seche Vite top coat, the silver balls don't even budge.

The larger rhinestone disc was provided to me by bornprettystore.com for review.  The smaller disc of rhinestones I bought off ebay.  I just wanted to let you know that I was pleasantly surprised with the bornprettystore clear rhinestones having a rainbow AB tint to them. The rhinestones I bought off ebay are just clear, the bornpretty ones have a rainbow sheen to them (you can see the rainbow sheen to them better on my nail pictures).

Oh yes, I just wanted to let you guys know that I have a 10% off coupon code for bornprettystore.com, it is: SWNAIL
Disclaimer - The acrylic mold, half pearls, large rhinestone disc was sent to me for review by bornprettystore.com with no payment. My opinion is an honest one.  The silver and gold balls, the small rhinestone disc, and the konad image plate was purchased by myself.

Avon Urban Grey + Bornpretty store review

Tuesday, December 7, 2010 Category : , , , , 13

I had bought the color vintage grey from Avon a few months ago but had never tried it  so I thought that today would be the day....Well the polish FAILS!!! Either it would not dry or it took forever to dry!
Also, it applied somewhat goopy.  ARGH! I own quite a few Avon polishes and this is the only bad one i've encountered...so. ..don't buy Vintage grey!

Here's what it looks like right now: will go into detail about this mani at the end of the post =)

 2 coats
The grey looked bland so I did some nail art on them.  I used the the 2 way nail art nail polish liners provided to me for review from the born pretty store

The polishes are boxed in a separate box from your other products

These are the jelly/ cream colors. -->the sky blue leaked a bit but it didn't smear onto the other polishes
dark blue, orange, dark red, green, dark green, blue, black, yellow, raspberry red, red, yellowish orange

Glitters: orange, blue, silver, gold, pink, purple

Metallics/ frosts: orange, fuchsia, green, copper, pink, grey, purple

These polishes are double ended.

1.You get a super fine metal tip. When you squeeze the bottle, polish comes out, the weird metal needle looking thing that is attached to every bottle fits into the metal tip to dislodges any polish that has hardened so that polish will always flow out of the metal tip
2. You have a thin paintbrush end. I have it compared to a 0.7mm lead pencil to show you how fine the paintbrush end is.

This is the design I came up with:

The thin stripes came from the metal tip of the 2 way nail art brush and the thick stripes came from the paintbrush end.

Then I used the 12 Color 3D Steel Ball Nail Art Glitter Decoration in purple (was received from  bornprettystore.com) to add more ommph to my nails..maybe too much ommph.

Maybe I should have done them all in the same direction... or maybe I didn't need the steel balls at all..eh. =)
